At the end of 2013 UniCredit implemented a new management structure within the Bank’s retail area. In order to maximize the organizational potential of the retail department, and to ensure further business growth, we decided to run Assessment Сentres for key managers within the retail area.

For us, it was very important to select an assessment provider who, on the one hand, would have a depth of expertise and comply with the high quality standards of the assessment process. Whilst on the other hand, would understand the UniCredit business and be flexible and attentive to our specific processes and needs.

Our decision to select FORMATTA was primarily driven by their strong assessment methodology which included a variety of simulation exercises as well as powerful psychometric tools (ability tests and Wave personality questionnaire) by Saville Consulting. This approach provided us with an evaluation of managers’ potential as well as their current level of managerial skills. We were able to discuss placements with an understanding of who is ready for the position now, who could be ready in 12-24 months and also identify managers who have a better fit for other positions within the Bank.

In terms of methodology, FORMATTA was able to match their assessment tools (including psychometric tests) with the 5 pillars of UniCredit’s global competency model. As a result, we obtained ratings and conclusions that were based on familiar criteria and were easily transferred into individual and group development plans. Participating in a session with the Wave performance culture framework cards was particularly useful as it helped the Retail management to share and align their visions of the key factors to success in each role.

We were particularly impressed with the quality of the reports that FORMATTA produced, both in terms of individual results and the overall picture. These reports were clearly structured, business oriented and contained a wealth of useful information whilst still maintaining a focus on key priorities.

A crucial point in the success of this project was the ability of the FORMATTA consultants to go beyond only producing Assessment Centre reports and ratings. They were instrumental in discussing these results and further recommendations with the management team.

We also obtained positive feedback from the Assessment Centre participants. They were very impressed with the depth and quality of the process, and commented that the assessment centre experience helped them to identify their areas of strengths and limitations, as well as development needs.

We plan to expand our collaboration with FORMATTA in the field of personnel assessment in the future. We are happy to recommend FORMATTA to any client for whom quality assessment and reliable results are important.
